The Curwood Chronicles Reading Order

The Curwood Chronicles are connected standalone novels by Australian author Alexandra Manfield: Australian nature fantasy with mystery, supernatural elements and a strong sense of place, moving between inner-city Melbourne and the Australian bush. They are suitable for readers aged 15 and up. Each book tells a complete story, so you can start with whichever one appeals to you most.

If you like to begin at the beginning, here they are in the order they were published.

Publication order

  1. The River Daughter (2020). Contemporary nature fantasy with touches of urban fantasy, set in inner-city Melbourne and the Australian bush. When her father's old sketchbook is stolen, Alisa is drawn into a series of strange and magical events, and towards the truth about who, or what, she really is.
  2. Orion's Web (2022). Near-future science fiction fantasy set in an altered, futuristic Melbourne. In a climate-changed Australia where humanity lives under domes, a family races across the New Desert to save their daughter, pursued by a hunter who has never missed a target.
  3. The Walkers of Curwood (2022). YA/teen contemporary nature fantasy that adults also enjoy, set in Melbourne and the fictional Curwood Forest. Childhood friends Cassie and Julian are separated by loss, until Cassie's parents vanish and she is drawn into an adventure stranger than any story.
  4. Son of Shadow (coming soon). The direct follow-on to The Walkers of Curwood: YA/teen contemporary fantasy, returning to inner-city Melbourne.
